Ben Christensen is a writer based in South Texas whose focus is outdoors features. He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. Ben lives on the Christensen family's 2,000-acre Santa Rosa Ranch in Cameron County, 15 minutes from South Padre Island. Christensen is a Marine Corps veteran of the Global War on Terror, having served a combat deployment as a sergeant in the infantry in Iraq's al-Anbar Province from August 2004 to March 2005.
Christensen got his start as a sports writer for the daily newspaper The Brownsville Herald at only 19 and received his degree in English from the University of Texas at Brownsville. He writes a weekly outdoors feature/column for the three Rio Grande Valley daily newspapers: the (McAllen) Monitor, The Valley Morning Star, and The Brownsville Herald, which runs Sundays. His features are diverse and feedback from readership has been positive.
Christensen is an avid hunter and fisherman, surfer, freediver, sailor, and kayaker. He and his wife of 14 years, Lynette Zohrer Christensen, have five children and a yellow labrador retriever.
